A bottle of cooking oil and sugar is all they need

Did Gogo Siboniso eat anything today, may be yes but maybe not since the aged do not go up the nearest anti hill to announce their predicament. Rather, they die silently pretending all is well with their souls.

At a time granaries are making hollow sounds and echoing with emptiness, many an old woman have nothing to eat. Distant grandchildren are nursing only memories of a grandmother they do not know whether still living or long departed.

The elderly need our care and remember that very soon you may join their ranks if not 'liberated' by death. Reminds me of an inscription on a tombstone at a local cemetery that read 'I was like you but very soon you will be like me'.

Let us remember our aged parents and grandparents, they are symbols of wisdom and our ancestry.

A bottle of cooking oil, sugar and a budget price blanket is all Gogo Siboniso needs to cheer her up. Who knows, one may have a testimony. Winter is tightening the screws and temperatures continue to tumble.

Let us help old people most of who are now stooped with old age and can hardly walk because of the effects of debilitating arthritis and unrelenting force of gravity that seem determined to pull them into the grave.

Why not a pair of canvas shoes or that unused overcoat tucked away in your house. Remember to help the poor, they will never forget your assistance.

Above all, God is watching.

Thomas Murisa. Chinehasha.
