MDC-T had hope in Mujuru but considered Chihuri 'hopeless'

The untimely death of the retired Army General Solomon Mujuru has left MDC-T in a slightly undesired position as the General had been their only hope to negotiate a way to topple Mugabe.

In a recently released US cable by the whistle blower website, "Wikileaks" MDC-T once identified the late former Zimbabwe Army Chief Solomon Mujuru as the right person to sell their Amnesty deal. The deal was to offer amnesty to top 10 Key military figures including Chief of the Defense Forces Vitalis Zvinavashe, Air Force Chief Perence Shiri, Army Chief Constantine Chiwenga, General Mashingaidze and Air Marshal Josiah Tungamirayi.

Harare Businessman Clive Puzey described Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri as "hopeless," and saw no need to offer him amnesty. Although MDC-T did not believe in granting pre-emptive amnesties, the Wikileaks cable alleges that they thought it prudent to extend this Olive Branch to the "People With the Guns" in order to mitigate, if not completely eliminate, the current wave of politically-inspired violence.

Puzey alleged that the then South African Vice President Jacob Zuma owed him a favor and he would call it in. He said he would ask the former Umkhonto We Sizwe Officer to approach Mujuru as a Military Man and lay out the Deal.

MDC-T had reasoned that all the violence and uncertainty surrounding the Parliamentary Election Campaign was due to the fact that certain top Military Leaders felt insecure about their fates should MDC-T win a majority of the votes.

Apparently MDC-T predicted they would win 90 seats in parliament but rigging by Zanu-PF was certain. They also worried about Tsvangirai's safety and monitored the movements of a hit man named Anthony White.
