You may be at a point in your career where you need more skills and expertise to progress, or where you simply want to build on your skills in order to do your job as well as you can, and feel more satisfied with the career you have. In order to improve, or move up the ladder, you may be thinking about studying for a qualification.

The good news is that it's possible to do this, and work at the same time. However, you need to plan ahead and make sure that you know when and where you are going to have the time to study effectively.

Why would you want to study?
You may be wondering whether studying is the best option for you. Only you can make this decision. However, it's worth saying that studying can open your eyes to new opportunities, or ways of working, that can help you to develop your career. For instance, you may be a teacher or assistant who can find inspiration, click this link for more information; or you may be an office worker who can benefit from improved IT skills.

Developing a schedule
One of the most important considerations, for successful study, is developing a schedule. You need to have a definite plan in place that helps you to define when and where your study sessions will take place. For instance, you may be able to study at home, after the kids have gone to bed, or at work during your lunch break.

Online learning is an option that allows you to study wherever and whenever you choose. You can simply log in to view lessons and to speak to your tutor. You may also have the facility to chat with other students. Once you have developed a schedule for your learning, make sure that you stick to it. Having a dedicated study area at home makes this a lot easier.

Making sure you have the right environment
Environment is important when you are studying. If you are not able to study in a quiet, comfortable and organised space, it's likely that you will struggle. It's useful if you can create a dedicated office in your home, where you can retreat to, away from the distractions of kids and TV. If you are not able to do this, you should try to section off part of a quieter room in your home, where you can have a desk and a laptop.

Once you are seated in your study space, make sure that people know not to interrupt you. Tell them that you cannot be disturbed when you are working, and do not give in. Do not forget that this is your time, which you are dedicating to improving your career, and you are entitled to it. Having said that, you need to keep a balance in place, and make sure that family life does not start to suffer badly as a result of your studying. You really can study anywhere and anytime, to improve your career, as long as you have the right planning in place.
