A Bulawayo based protest poet Desire Moyoxide has released a contemporary poem commenting on the recent violent protests and police brutality that rocked the nation and the subsequent army and police brutality that followed.

Part of the lines from the poems say:

I feel like pressing delete button and format this country to a clean democratic and just start
Zimbabwe is burning
The politicians are brutal
When shall they breed development?
Citizens are citing incapacitation
When shall there be free participation?
My President was not around, these questions have been lying idle at the airport waiting for answers
Stop pretending to be demigods
Cancelling Davos  trips will not beautify the death of the dead
Dearest leaders why do you worship the guns?

Listen to the full poem below:

Speaking to Bulawayo24, Moyoxide says he uses art as a means of advocacy and social commentary on challenges  affecting the society.  He revealed also that his inspiration in poetry is South Africa's Mzwakhe Mbuli and Big Brother Albert Nyathi.

"I have been a poet since 1993 when I took up arts at Manama High School and fully explored my poetic prowess in 2010 as `Moyoxide the Freedom Poet." He said.

"Poetry runs in my blood. I nurtured and cultivated the potential in me. It runs naturally. I have passion for poetry and unlimited faith in it and boundless energy to explore it."

Moyoxide said he met Mzwakhe Mbuli in 2014 and they are working on a album together which was supposed to be released in 2017 but was postponed due to their mutually busy schedules.
